Fundamental values at Beyond The Barre
Lucy fundamentally believes that a strong support system and access to dancer informed and specified education is crucial for a dancer’s health and wellbeing, and has seen that her history and background in dance and these related challenges personally allows dancers to lean into her mentoring, feel safe and connected and trust her. After all, dancers understand dancers, and it can be very difficult to build that rapport with someone who hasn’t been in the pointe shoes.
Meet Lucy
Lucy was a company artist with Queensland Ballet up until 2022 when she retired with a major ankle injury. She went through QB’s Pre-Professional Program and Young Artist program, following her education at the Australian Ballet School.
As a young dancer Lucy faced numerous years of eating disorders and mental health issues, which led her to begin her further education in nutrition and counselling. Lucy now holds her Bachelor of Food and Nutrition, a Diploma of Counselling, and certificates 3 and 4 in fitness.
Through this knowledge, lived experience, and growing expertise Lucy has founded her own business, Beyond the Barre. As a mentor and coach for elite dancers across the globe, she teaches specified dancer nutrition, strength training and mindset, with a focus on eating disorders/disordered eating, mental health difficulties, body image, healthy weight management and nourishment, injury prevention and mindset during injury and stress management.
